At the Lee County Sheriff’s Department in Florida, a sweet senior dog named Molly had to be humanely euthanized because of alleged abject neglect and cruelty from her owner.
On August 15, deputies from the sheriff’s office responded to Blue Pearl Pet Hospital referencing Jonathan Urquizo, 26, who brought in a Labrador retriever named Molly in terribly poor condition. The dog was emaciated, severely dehydrated with extremely low blood pressure and suffered burns on her skin from sitting and lying in urine for an extended period of time.

As if that wasn’t distressing enough, Molly also had maggots crawling in and around her fragile body. She was in such distress, veterinarians had no other choice than to humanely end her suffering.
When deputies arrived and interviewed Urquizo, he was then detained by deputies followed by an investigation into animal cruelty with the Animal Cruelty Task Force. When authorities arrived at the suspect’s home, a severely underweight cat named Ladybug was found. She was transported to Blue Pearl for treatment.

Sheriff Carmine Marceno was heartbroken after seeing Molly’s condition:
It sickens me that this sweet dog molly was just trying to live out her golden years, but instead was treated so poorly by this poor excuse of a man. I have absolutely zero tolerance for anyone who thinks it is okay to force any animal to live in this condition. i thank God for allowing my deputies to rescue Ladybug and save her from a terrible ending like Molly’s.
Further investigation found Molly and Ladybug had been forced to live in uninhabitable conditions. The entire home had been covered in animal feces.

Urquizo has been charged with aggravated animal cruelty, causing excessive pain to animals and has been issued a citation by the county officials for unsanitary living conditions.
Unlike his pets, he was given a clean place to stay at the Marceno Motel
