An English bulldog, named Maverick, is on the mend after having been bitten by a rattlesnake while playing in the family’s backyard in southern Arizona. His bonded pal, a gray Merle Frenchie was also bitten on the cheek. The snake had crawled through the fence opening.

According to the storyline on TikTok, their owners rushed the dogs to the emergency veterinarian within 30 minutes of the painful and possible fatal injuries.

Finley, the adorable Frenchie responded to the antivenom treatment and blood transfusions quickly, but Maverick, who had been bitten twice on his face, had a slower recovery, but has been steadily improving.

The video clip garnered 659,000 views with lots of hope and prayers for Maverick’s recovery. The dogs were at the vet hospital for two days and then returned home to continue their treatment; lots of extra tlc prescribed of course.

Maverick’s owner said the dog had spotted the snake, and even though he had been trained to avoid any confrontations with snakes, had been in protection mode as he sensed immediate danger to his sibling and his human.

Just as a reminder to all dog owners if a similar situation occurs and your dog is bitten by a poisonous snake. Getting them to an emergency veterinarian for treatment immediately is crucial. Do not try to treat your pet at home. With prompt treatment, the survival rate is between 80 to 90 percent.

Welcome home Maverick and Finley. Stay safe guys.
