At the Wyandotte Police Department, part of the job is to protect a person’s personal property, and just days ago, drama ensued when an officer’s sandwich went missing and an investigation seemed to imply another officer’s official reputation had been sullied.
That officer, K-9 Ice, faced an internal investigation for stealing. You see, Officer Barwig had been eating lunch in the breakroom on Monday when he was called to assist with a person in the Wyandotte Police Department jail. Officer Barwig quickly jumped to help and left his half-eaten sandwich on the table. A short while later, when the officer returned to the breakroom, the sandwich had vanished, and K-9 Officer Ice was spotted casually walking out of the room “licking his chops.”
When questioned, K-9 Ice had invoked his 5th Amendment, remained silent and refused to cooperate with the investigation. In the past, although no proof was brought forward, K-9 Ice has been suspected of rummaging through trash cans within his reach and occasionally taking food from co-workers’ hands as they walked by.
And so this particularly perplexing case was handed over to the Facebook followers on how to proceed with the investigation.
Not one public response alleged that K-9 Ice had done anything wrong; including the investigatory assumption that “licking your chops is automatic grounds for guilt.” Was K-9 Ice informed of his rights, and how does one translate ‘dog’ into English? And could it have been K-9 Ice wasn’t getting enough food to eat, and he was so very hungry? Could there be an animal cruelty investigation too?
The Wyandotte Police Department responded, stating they had been threatened with massive protests, and the overall public just didn’t believe he was guilty – no video has been produced either. That being said, all charges have been dropped!
And the best part of this investigation? One of K-9 Ice’s supporters delivered a custom made sandwich for him. And as a side note, “they threw the officers a tray of sammies too!”
