Amy became homeless in Phoenix during the summer, and not having a home is hard enough for humans; never mind for a dog. And although Amy and Rogue have had a difficult journey, they remain together; all thanks to the kindness of strangers who have become friends.

I became depressed thinking I would have to give up my best friend. We had tried making Rogue wear shoes to protect her paws from the pavement but she wouldn’t. Nothing would stay on her feet.

With no money and no home, Amy thought for sure she would have needed to surrender Rogue to a shelter; that is until she found out about The Arizona Pet Project. Amy knew Rogue needed her vaccines, needed to be spayed and worried about her dog in the middle of Arizona summer’s heat. She explained to the intervention counselor at the shelter she just wanted Rogue to be safe and happy.

That’s when the Arizona Pet Project stepped in, and in Amy’s greatest time of need. Rogue was scheduled to receive her vaccines and scheduled to be spayed. She was also placed in a temporary boarding home and given a safe and comfortable place to live and rest while Amy figured out her next steps.

Never in my life did I feel so grateful for the help. I no longer cared I was homeless because my best friend was safe.

Weeks later, Amy made a life-changing decision and decided to move back to Maine.

We left AZ for Maine on a greyhound bus. Since then we’ve been thru a lot and been a lot of places but the one thing that never changes is that if it weren’t for The Arizona Pet Project I wouldn’t be sharing this journey with Rogue right now.

Y’all kept my family together in our darkest hours. She got me thru the worst times of my life. Honestly, without y’alls help I might not have survived my deepest depression to thank y’all from the bottom of my heart.

The update on Amy and Rogue will make you smile. The two have remained together and Rogue became dual-certified as a therapeutic and registered service dog. Amy and Rogue love to go camping, love to visit the ocean and the two are inseparable.

There are so many people facing tough times like Amy and Rogue. Many thanks to the Arizona Pet Project for helping. You make a difference by helping the community’s most vulnerable residents—including the elderly, veterans, domestic violence survivors, and people experiencing homelessness—with basic care for them and their beloved pets. Their revolutionary programs have impacted over 150,000 pets and the people who need them most since 2005. With your help, together, we can save even more!
