In Flint, Michigan, a two-week-old puppy was pulled from the back of a garbage truck last week. Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson updated the community about the case on Friday and has reported the puppy is recovering.

According to Nbc15News, the puppy had been abandoned in a garbage bag and left on the side of the road. A worker, Bobby Brooks, who is a loader for Priority Waste, heard a sound coming from the back of the truck and initially thought it had been from a rodent; to make sure he went to the rear of the truck. That’s when he spotted the face of a tiny puppy at the very bottom of the truck. Brooks dove into the truck, head first, to rescue the innocent little victim of someone’s neglect and abuse.

Had not Brooks heard the sound of the puppy or not bothered to look, pulling the levers for the truck could have killed or seriously hurt the puppy.

The CEO of Priority Waste Michigan has volunteered to pay for the puppy’s veterinarian bills.

The puppy is recovering and Brooks hopes to adopt it soon.

According to Sheriff Chris Swanson, an arrest has been made. Updates to follow.
