In Woodinville, Washington, Harvey, a husky some people on social media called “ugly,” was adopted last month after a family from Washington drove nearly 3,000 miles roundtrip over a span of six days to adopt him.

According to the San Diego Department of Animal Services in Carlsbad, California, Harvey arrived at the shelter in September 2022 undernourished and filthy. The dog’s face seemed to be deformed and when examined by veterinarians, they attributed the deformity to having been bitten as a very young puppy. Still, that didn’t make any difference to Harvey. After all, how often does a dog look in the mirror?

The team at the shelter had decided to name the friendly pup, Harvey after the DC Comic character Harvey Dent or “Two Face” – one of Batman’s arch rival who had a crooked smile.

But the problem with Harvey’s face, although it never presented an issue or slowed the pooch down, would-be adopters would just walked by him, and one visitor even called him “ugly.” No one asked to meet him nor did anyone even want to take him out to the play yard at the shelter to even get to know him, according to the shelter’s Facebook posts.

And as the staff began to know the two-year-old better, and the friendly pup would be just the cutest, the sweetest and the most curious of dogs at the shelter, it was time to introduce Harvey to social media.

Harvey is a quiet and mellow husky who gets along with other dogs and loves treats. harvey has a facial deformity that doesn’t bother him but gives him a crooked smile. I think it makes him even more endearing.

It was Sherry Lankston, 41, from Woodinville who saw Harvey’s Facebook plea and although she had not been actively looking for another dog to adopt, Harvey won her heart. Within a few days, after discussing bringing Harvey into the family, mom and the two kids headed out for the 20 hour roundtrip drive. Dad joined them the next day.

We are happy to say, when the family and Harvey met, it was love at first sight. Even the family’s other dog, River was quite smitten with the new addition.
