In Adelaide, South Australia, a nine-month-old German shepherd surely has more lives than any cat’s traditional “9 lives.” This scared pup had just been hit be a vehicle on the road, and in an utter panic headed for the railroad tracks where she ran between the wheels of a train as it slowly approached the station.

According to Yahoo News, on Saturday afternoon volunteers from Lost Dogs of South Australia, had been informed about a young German shepherd “covered in blood” in the suburbs of Salisbury and had tried to capture the dog. Upon spotting people trying to come after him, the frightened dog ran towards the tracks as a train approached getting ready to stop at the station. She ran in between the wheels and miraculously survived.

According to Christine Robertson, the director of Lost Pets South Australia, the dog tried to hide underneath the wheels, and volunteers from the station as well as the train driver, slowly crawled under the wheels of the train to save her.

More than 65,000 pets across Australia have received a microchip thanks to Christine Robertson, but that wasn’t what she initially set out to achieve.

Christine co-founded the Lost Pets of South Australia charity in 2013 to reunite lost pets with their families. The volunteer organisation uses social media and its connections with the RSPCA and other animal welfare groups to get lost animals back home.

The dog, dubbed Chugga, only sustained minor injuries to her body and abrasions to her paws, and has since been very sociable and is being described as a “bit of a love bug.”

Chugga’s family have not come forward, and the dog wore no collar nor is she microchipped which is now a legal requirement for all dogs in South Australia. If Chugga’s family is not found, the dog will be evaluated and made available for adoption. Get well soon Chugga.

Many thanks to Christine – you are a hero.
