It is not known how an eight-year-old mixed breed, pint-sized pooch, named Cubby, ended up in Peru, New York, but he has just arrived in Florida, and his former family was very excited to be reunited with him.

According to the Elmore SPCA, Cubby’s family, who lived in Florida in 2019, had been moving to Japan for work and were not able to find anyone to care for their dog long term. They surrendered Cubby to a nearby shelter hoping he would find a good home.

Several months ago a dog control officer in Plattsburgh, New York found Cubby after he had been struck by a car. The officer took the dog to a nearby animal veterinarian clinic where he was treated for minor injuries. What a lucky pup. As he was being examined, the vet did find an embedded fishhook in his matted coat and removed it.

In addition, as a customary procedure, the facility scanned Cubby for a microchip, and indeed he had one. Fortunately, for Cubby and his former family who had reluctantly surrendered him when they had to travel overseas for work, the family had since moved back to Florida; yes, the microchip company was able to contact the family.

On Wednesday, Cubby said goodbye to his friends at the Elmore SPCA and has since arrived in Florida and rejoined his family.
