A mother dog, Olive, from Muskegon, Michigan, had given birth to a litter of puppies at the very end of January, but only one survived. Olive had been freezing and starving, but had used all of her energy and life skills to get out of the deep snow; that is until she found a dry cushion on a residential porch for her and her puppy, Uno, and help arrived.

According to the Pound Buddies, the story of Olive and Uno’s survival began on January 27; Uno the only surviving puppy to have survived the harsh winter conditions.

Your mom, olive, protected you and never let you out of her sight. She carried you around in her mouth all day to find shelter to keep you safe.

Olive had been freezing and starving, and it had been a long time since she had eaten; her body had expended all of its strength to keep her puppy nourished.

After desperately searching for a way out of the snow and cold, your mom found a home that looked safe; she cautiously investigated the front porch and found a comfy chair pillow to gently place you and keep you warm by lying on you and keeping your belly full.

Fortunately, the homeowner spotted the mother dog and her tiny puppy and called for help. It had been so cold that night, rescuers from Pound Buddies drove out to the home. There they found both Olive and Uno curled up trying to stay warm – cuddled in the pillow, but wet and freezing.

At first, Olive was very wary of the strangers approaching her puppy, but after the reassuring treatment decided these humans were there to help her. In just a few minutes, the two were moved into the rescuers’ warm car – placed in front of the car heater blowing at high speed and treated to some delicious food.

Your mommy has been such a protector and provider, and you have been growing more each day. Today you opened you eyes, and you will start to the world in a far more beautiful way.

Uno and her mom, Olive, have been recovering and making wonderful progress each day. It will be several weeks before they are ready for adoption.

Many thanks to Anna for keeping an eye on Olive and contacting the rescue organization for help. Anna saved their lives! And thank you to staff members Nick and Emily for responding to the call that night. Great job!
