An officer from the Animal Care & Control San Francisco, rescued a small dog on Thursday after she was spotted under a pile of rocks by a morning jogger on Ocean Beach. The dog had been buried near the sewage treatment plant, and miraculously – it had been low tide, when the jogger heard the muffled bark.

According to the animal welfare organization, at first the jogger didn’t see anything, but when he decided to search around the rocks, there he spotted a tiny face looking up at him from between the rocks.

Officer Ortega was called to help; and it was no easy task as he had to move large rocks to free the pup whose disappearance from her guardian’s home had already been reported to Animal Care . After freeing the dog, Officer Ortega drove the one-year-old Springer spaniel back to her home where she was reunited with her family in Noe Valley.

We have no idea how she got into that tiny area. Possibly, she dislodged a large rock, fell in, and the rock rolled on top. However it happened, we’re so glad she’s now safe and sound at home.
