Heartwarming update: Frosted face senior who waited a week next to his deceased owner

In Houston, Texas, a frosted face oldster landed at an overcrowded shelter with little hope of seeing another day. The 12-year-old senior had lost his home after his long time human best friend passed away. Mufasa mustered up all of his loyalty, and for a week stayed bravely by his deceased owner’s side. When the landlord called the local animal control, Mufasa was taken to the shelter.

According to the landlord, Mufasa had been at the home for a long time with his owner; how confused and sad the senior dog must have felt when he was taken to the shelter and placed in a cage alone.

Sadly, the man had no relatives, and Mufasa wasn’t a fan of the shelter atmosphere. He had been snarling and lunging at workers and volunteers. Therefore, at 12-years-old and not very cooperative, the senior had been placed on the euthanasia list. Houston area shelters are so full they euthanize daily just for space — even puppies are being euthanized; this guy truly stood no chance.

With just hours to spare before losing his life, ThisIsHouston came along at the perfect time. Mufasa, very much reminded volunteers of Bear – a dog who has wandered the streets for eight years with a huge tumor on the side of his face.

At this time, veterinarians are helping Mufasa get over his upper respiratory infection.

And here’s the best part we know you will surely love to read:

He finally laid down on a dog bed last night and the last photo was the end result; he loved it so much! While he has a heartbreaking story and lost his owner, he gained a family with us. We don’t know how much longer he has here on Earth, but we’ll be there for him until his last day.
