Heartbreaking: Emaciated 4 month old puppy abandoned in woods barely alive

A four-month-old emaciated puppy was found in a Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania wooded area on Friday. He was rushed to the Beaver County Humane Society for emergency treatment, and veterinarians stated had the puppy not been discovered, he likely would have succumbed to the low temperatures and his physical condition.

The puppy was found to be hypothermic with a body score of “1” out of a possible “9.” His entire tiny body was soaked with urine, and he was too weak to stand. Initial bloodwork has been performed, and he has been found to be anemic which may have been caused by the extreme buildup of parasites and malnutrition. He also appears to have an old injury to his left front leg

“We are unsure if this pup was out in the elements for weeks or if it was just dumped recently,” says Cailin Rankin, Shelter Manager. “We want to be Beaver County’s resource when caring for an animal becomes too much, we wish the person or persons who did this would have turned to us instead of leaving this pup in the woods to die.” The medical team did advise this pup would not have survived in the woods much longer.

Beaver County Humane Society will conduct a recheck of bloodwork today, and if needed, he will need to be sent for a blood transfusion. Once the pup is on the mend, the puppy’s front joints and legs will need further evaluation.

The Beaver County Humane Society has offered a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for dumping this puppy as if he was trash.
