Meet Trevor; this hairless five-month-old puppy, barely weighing 22 pounds, who was found wandering the streets in Broward County, Florida on May 31. Someone had abandoned him, even as he suffered from demodectic mange – a contagious skin disease of parasitic mites. His itching never stopped, and when found he was covered in open lesions and scabs.

The Broward County Florida shelter where he was taken did provide basic emergency care, but a five-month-old puppy who still has his baby teeth needed someone to really care. A shelter is just no place for a puppy. It was Love is Fur Ever Dog Rescue who stepped up to help.

On June 1, Trevor (formerly Hoover) arrived at the organization’s partner veterinary hospital where he was examined, and a plan to treat his skin disease began. He requires dedicated medical care and specialized treatment including multiple vet visits, skin treatments and medication to treat the disease that has been plaguing his fragile body. Daily, medicated baths are now part of his daily care.

That same day, Trevor had been on his way to his emergency foster home, and he is already receiving his medicated baths to soothe the pain and stop the intense itching. In addition, he is learning about life; and by that we mean the good things humans have to offer including lots of new experiences, lots of compassionate care and lots of love.

Check out Trevor’s progress in just a week. Doesn’t he look so much better?

No, it is not known who abandoned this little guy, but we can only look to the future and know that Trevor is one of the lucky puppies. Everyone can make a difference; support your local shelter and/or rescue organization, volunteer and/or report any animal cruelty or neglect. Be the voice for those who cannot speak.

Trevor is now ready to move on to a foster or better yet a permanent home.

Trevor is looking for a foster home or a foster to adopt home. He needs to remain in the Lee County FL area. It’s time for him to bridge into his next journey. All medical will be covered by LIFE rescue until he is cleared and all necessary puppy procedures are complete.
