In Town N’ Country, Florida, a woman has been arrested after deputies from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office recovered video of Elizabeth Jaimes beating a dog with a rubber mallet.

According to an updated statement from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, deputies had received a call on Monday reporting an animal cruelty incident, and when authorities arrived, they were given a video from a surveillance camera of Jaimes, 24, restraining 9-year-old Siberian husky, Maya, with a leash and repeatedly striking the dog with a rubber mallet on the pup’s head and body.

Authorities believe the abuse began in October 2022. Jaimes had been living in the home back in August 2022 with her boyfriend and his mother who are the dog’s owners. Since that time, Maya had been experiencing multiple injuries and had been brought to the veterinarian for blunt force trauma to her head and back including spine and rib fractures. She was also blind in one eye. The veterinarian had been concerned about the injuries, and suggested to the owner they install a surveillance camera to see what was going on with the dog.

Jaimes admitted to hitting the dog because he had growled at her.

We as a community and as a society will never tolerate the abuse and terrorization of a poor innocent animal. Elizabeth Jaimes will feel the full weight of the criminal justice system in Hillsborough County.

Following the arrest, Maya was reunited with her owner and is recovering at home. The owner has filed an injunction on Jaimes.

Nothing would justify this evil and callous abuse. Maya is a sweet and loving animal who did not deserve the torture she endured. This is why our investigation is so important. We need to dig deeper and determine how far the abuse goes back. We are dedicated to investigating this case and ensuring that Jaimes will be held accountable for her heinous acts.

Jaimes was arrested on May 1, 2023, and was later released on a $7,500 bond.

  1. Beyond cruel and disgusting treatment of a senior furbaby!!! This POS ex-girlfriend deserves some serious jail time and should be held accountable for restitution for Maya’s veterinary bills.

Jaimes should be banned from ever being around animals and should never be allowed to adopt them.
