In Boca Raton, a dog discovered on Thursday afternoon glued to the ground, is recovering at the Tri County Humane Society. The dog has been named Trooper.

According to the animal rescue organization, a Good Samaritan had spotted the dog lying on the sidewalk near a busy road. The dog had been lying in his own excrement for a long time, and it had dried up and literally glued the dog to the spot.

The smell was unbearable. There was no way a dog could have ended up like this over night. How long was it going on? How long does he have? Did he get to us in time?

While shaving him down, seeing the maggots crawling from his fur, seeing his overgrown nails and the terrible dental decay.

Rescuers worked to free the little dog for about an hour, and when he was rushed to a local veterinarian, the staff had to make sure the dog was still breathing and alive.

He was covered in fecal material, burrs, even maggots. he had a lot of wounds on his skin, long nails that when we cut them, basically pus came out.

Trooper has a host of other medical conditions including a heart murmur, ear infections, ulcers in his eyes and a slipped disc in his back, making him unable to walk.

Trooper is a Pekingese and is estimated to be about 10-years-old. Thursday’s update, however, helped to bring a bit of joy to the hearts of Trooper’s supporters. Despite all of the medical challenges the sweet little guy is facing, the smile on his face after multiple baths and grooming – knowing there are so many fans rooting for him to get better, brings hope.
