At Miami-Dade Animal Services, it is feared a young American bulldog mix named Casper will soon lose his life, because the shelter states he is reactive in his kennel. What the shelter doesn’t seem to understand, however is Casper is frustrated, doesn’t understand why he has been locked in a kennel since November 2022 and why he isn’t home. He is currently not on the adoption floor, so his adoption opportunities have been greatly decreased.

Casper is in urgent need of rescue to ensure ongoing treatment for the following behavioral concerns:

Severe reactivity in kennel but does well outside of the kennel. the pet is currently being treated by our veterinary staff however due to the extent of medical or behavioral care required the pet will benefit from rescue. This pet requires a rescue commitment to avoid prolonging unnecessary pain or suffering.

Miami-Dade AS notes

Casper was given a toy which seemed to relax him a bit and possibly reminded him of what being in a home would be like.

Check out his videos. Watch the progression as Casper loves to be with people, but just can’t stand being locked in a kennel cage.

Most definitely, Casper has won over the staff at the shelter. Here is what they have to report:

Casper has been in our care for 117 days and we are desperately seeking a foster home for this handsome boy to avoid him being in a kennel for one more day! During his time in our care, we have noticed Casper enjoys playing with other dogs in playgroups and finds comfort in carrying toys, often taking them with him throughout the shelter or during walks.

Casper has presented as very stressed in a kennel setting but immediately shows signs of decompressing in an office or outside in the play yard with other dogs.
