In Merced County, California, Merced County Sheriff Vern Warnke has a heart as big as his hat when he aired a video of him offering to help a surrendered dog find a new home.

That it happened to be National Puppy Day may have been the stimulus for the adorable clip, with a dog named Chunk, who sadly had just been surrendered by his owner during a traffic stop. The heartbroken owner had no choice as he had lost his home and was preparing to move into a trailer where he was not allowed to keep his dog.

And sadly, Chunk had to be surrendered to Merced County Animal Services, but Sheriff Van Warnke obviously has a big heart when it comes to dogs and offered to pay for all of Chunk’s adoption fees for the five-year-old friendly pit bull type.

Who needs a new best friend!? Everyone, meet Chunk! This sweet pup has stolen our hearts, and we want to help find him a great home. In honor of National Puppy Day, Sheriff Vern Warnke is offering to pay for Chunk’s adoption fees until Saturday! Let’s find this little guy his forever home.
