In Orange County, Florida, the Orange County Animal Services had been scheduled to host a special adoption event just for Nicholas on Saturday. They had named the day “PICK NICK.” And just one day before the shelter was to host the adoption event, Nick was adopted.

Sadly, Nick’s adoption didn’t last. The apartment where Nick was waiting to call home did not allow dogs of his size, and when left alone, Nick would bark.

This is why it’s so important to understand what you are getting into when you choose to adopt. To check your residential restrictions. To know your own limitations. Not every adoption is going to be perfect; there are no turn-key dogs. it will take time, it will take patience. They will have good days. They will have bad days. They will get scared, Bored, frustrated. Dogs will get along with other dogs one day, and not the next. Their personalities, their moods, their preferences; all are as varied as a human’s.

The three-year-old pup who weighs a solid 67 pounds, is the shelter’s longest resident at more than 100 days and is by far – one of the most popular and loving pooches at the shelter.

But look what happened on Thursday!

As we wave goodbye to Nick, let’s bring up another potential candidate waiting for his opportunity to find his forever human. And now in Nick’s honor, the humane organization is still going to celebrate the event, and give another one of their dogs a full adoption day. Today will now be King for a Day, for their longest resident King (A476981).

Those of you who follow the shelter’s Facebook page are familiar with two-year-old King. He has been at the shelter for almost 110 days and sadly, and this is his second time here. He is sweet, energetic, and good with other dogs. King is genuinely a good boy, but has had very little attention or interactions. Let today be the day, King gets the royal treatment.

He is King for a Day, and we will be front and center all day surrounded by toys, treats and friends. And so far, he is loving every minute of it. Everyone knows there’s an adopter out there for this sweet boy.

Let’s get him seen. Let’s get him home.
