Nina was found nearly lifeless lying under a bridge in Rosenberg, Texas in early November. Her initial finders were afraid to approach her, thinking she had already died, but sure enough, Nina was still alive, and because she so desperately wanted to live, the emaciated dog managed to get up and stumble over to her rescuers; collapsing in front of them. Yes, Nina wanted their help.

The rescue group, ThisIsHouston stepped up to help, and when the five-year-old pup arrived at the veterinary hospital no one was even sure she had eyes – she certainly did understand however that people were there to help her, and finally Nina felt safe.

When examined, veterinarians found Nina indeed had both eyes, but they were causing her tremendous pain and needed to be removed. For the time being and until she was strong enough, she was administered eye medications for comfort. Nina also received intravenous fluids, antibiotics and de-wormers. She was severely emaciated and placed on a strict re-feeding schedule. Her love for her rescuers remained constant.

Nearly two months later, Nina is a new girl! According to ThisIsHouston, Nina acts as if nothing ever happened. Yes, Nina is blind, but is coping and learning how to handle life with her disability. Happy to report, Nina is even learning how to maneuver a flight of steps too! You go Nina!

She’s spunky, spoiled, safe, and everything a dog should be. She has a meet and greet with potential adopters today but here she is being loved in her foster home.
