In a heartwarming moment, Ukrainian police officers and civilians alike rescue a puppy buried alive after a shell attack in the village of Mykhailivka, in Donetsk Oblast located in eastern Ukraine on Tuesday.
The video, posted on Twitter by Anton Gerashchenko, shows the rescuers desperately digging amidst the debris and finding the frightened puppy covered in sand and soot.
Anton Gerashchenko: A village on Donbas was shelled by Russia and a puppy was under the debris. Rescuers were able to save him and give him back to the owner (who himself narrowly escaped death from shelling). The Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service (SES) of Ukraine in Donetsk Oblast also posted the video. It remains important to stress the kindness and compassion of the police and other auxiliary personnel fighting to save as many lives as possible.
The frightened puppy was dusted off, reassured as he cuddled in his rescuers arms and then returned to his worried 77-year-old owner.
According to Newsweek, the Donetsk Regional Police stated;
Every life is important – this is the slogan of the police and rescuers of Donetsk Oblast. The owner and his dog were given medical care. All is well with them.Zenger News
The elderly man barely survived the bombing, and was so relieved to have found out his dog had also survived after rescuers had heard a faint cry from under all of the debris. Two more lives saved – every life is precious.
