In Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania SPCA announced that two juveniles – a 12-year-old and a 17-year-old are facing animal cruelty charges following a vicious attack on Buddy the cat. On Tuesday, two males were caught on video encouraging two dogs to brutally attack a neighbor’s cat.

On Friday, the 17-year-old suspect arrived at the Pennsylvania SPCA with a parent, and the younger child is expected to surrender on Saturday. The dogs involved in the incident have been taken into custody.

The current charges filed include felony animal fighting, felony aggravated animal cruelty and a conspiracy charge. These crimes do not fall under the list of offenses which permit juveniles to be charged as adults which is designated by statute.

Buddy remains in critical condition, but his prognosis is hopeful. An update on his condition was posted on the organization’s Facebook page Friday:

“Though he be but little, he is fierce.” Buddy is still hanging in there. He remains in critical condition, but we are cautiously optimistic. The outpouring of support for him has been nothing short of amazing, and we hope to have more news to share soon.

Buddy seems to be a gem for all we can tell so far,” Kocher said. “He loves chin scratches, has been giving head nudges and loves a warm rag on his whiskers. Only time will tell what else his personality holds, but we think he has a bright future if all goes well.”

  1. Monsters. I see prison in their future but not for what they did to Buddy. I hope the judge makes them pay every penny spent saving Buddy. Those dogs were taught to attack. What is to stop them from killing again. Maybe Tia at Los Lobos will save them. I feel bad for the dogs cuz they were just doing what they were told. I’m sure they have already been euthanized.
