Tourists ignoring the rules to stay away from grizzly bears at Yellowstone National Park

It hasn’t taken long since the tourists at Yellowstone National Park have already decided to break the rules with their own dangerous behavior that very well could get them maimed or killed as well as the wild animals.

The park officially opened on April 15, and tourists have been videoed getting out of their vehicles to take photos of a grizzly bear walking through the snow. The grizzly appears to be closer than 100 yards which is the minimum distance tourists are required to maintain when viewing the animals.

The bears are out … so are the tourons.

In case you’re not familiar with the term “touron” – it’s frequently a person on vacation who commits an act of pure stupidity = tourist + moron.

For one’s own protection, perhaps checking out grizzly bears, it’s not unusual for the animals to be able to run as fast as 35mph. In addition, the park rules aren’t that complicated, and there have been serious injuries from tourists believing they can practically walk up to these wild animals to photograph selfies.

In October 2021, a woman from Illinois was sentenced to four days in jail and a year of probation after she pleaded guilty to charges of walking towards a grizzly and her cubs. She also paid $1,000 to the Yellowstone Forever Wildlife Protection Fund as well as other fines and fees.

Earlier last year, a woman standing within a few feet of a grizzly ran for her life when the bear started to chase her. She was able to get away, but was later charged with intentionally disturbing wild life.

Respect our parks and our wildlife. They are not here to be your selfie photo on social media.

  1. As much as I love animals and want to see them, I respect them. I can’t understand why some individuals think that wild animals are “meant to entertain them”…… wild animals should be left alone to live their lives. If one is lucky enough to snap a picture (@ a safe distance), GREAT!!! But give the wild animals their space!!!!!

I once sat still for 3+ hours until a leopard moved off the rock next to our open air jeep……. It was amazing to see a wild leopard and I will never forget the experience. But I kept my distance!!!!!

We had lions sit on our lounge chairs outside our tent. Amazing!!!!! We held still until they finished their sunbathing……. Again, we left them alone…… just seeing wild lions was incredible???
