In a viral Tik Tok video a dog owner, Shaian, posting as @smolgaott, claims that her neighbor poured chili powder along the shared fence line to keep her dogs away and thus keep them from annoying her with their barking.

The viral video, which as since garnered over two million views, the orange powder is visible spread on the ground along the fence line.

So I get home, I let my girls out, I notice immediately that they start eating whatever this is on my fence line.

Unaware about the content of the powder or who could have spread it, Shaian starts with asking her housing office if any work was being done on her property. And when she was told no, she went over to her neighbor at which time the neighbor admitted it was her and that she had poured the chili powder on the ground to keep the Shaian’s dogs from barking and urinating on the fence line. The neighbor had read about the chili powder “remedy” online and told Shaian she had no idea the dogs would eat it and get sick.

Shaian’s two dogs are seven months old and still need more training, but they are not aggressive dogs.

According to Newsweek, the puppies, Storm and Rogue, came in that evening and were “chugging water.” They also had upset stomachs, had been crying in pain and ended up with diarrhea. Fortunately the chili powder ran its course and the puppies are doing fine.

Now as far as how the internet felt about the Shaian’s puppies and her neighbor, reactions were mixed. Some supported the puppies because of their age – and barking and urinating that way are pretty puppy like behaviors. Other comments included Shaian’s responsibility to keep her dogs from being nuisances. Most agreed, however using chili powder was not an acceptable retaliation.
