On Wednesday morning, the Valley Animal Center received a call that one of their previously adopted dogs had been found as a stray in Las Vegas. The worst part – this was the third time!

Ava, an eight-year-old chocolate American pitbull, had been in and out of shelters since 2016 when she was found abandoned in a field in Orange Cove. She was malnourished, underweight, and had severe mange. In March 2017, Ava was adopted but found abandoned again in Pima, Arizona in 2019. Again, she was found malnourished. After being rehabbed again, Ava was adopted on September 23, 2020.

Everyone was elated; for sure Ava had finally found her loving, forever home. Sadly, the best laid plans of rescuers has gone askew.

To hear that Ava was abandoned yet again is very disheartening and makes me sick to my stomach. She has been through so much in her life and doesn’t deserve this.

Supervisor Ruben Cantu

The dog’s previous owner was not able to be immediately contacted. Rubin did speak with the local animal control in Las Vegas who stated that Ava had been left in the care of family who later said they “had cut Ava loose.”

Ruben has been picked up Ava and has been brought back to Fresno.

So let’s all help find Ava a home. She is fine with children, other dogs and loves everyone. The ideal family for Ava:

She’s just an old lady that wants to hang out. I can’t believe this is the third state that she’s found herself in where people have left her down.

Robin Cantu

Ava does face some health issues which include masses that have been left untreated. She will undergo surgery for the removal of one before she will be ready to be adopted. She also has some bald spots on her coat from mange and burns after having been abandoned in the desert heat.
