San Marcos, TX – A frightened dog named Dove is doing her very best to be brave at a Texas animal shelter that is filled to the brim. On Thursday, the Facebook page for Hays County, TX Animal Shelter Rescue Network described the situation at the maxed out animal shelter, writing:

The San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter is completely FULL and turning animals away, even baby chihuahuas found abandoned in a box in front of Goodwill. No vacancy! The shelter is in a serious crisis! Dogs and cats are being dumped across the county left and right

Commenting on Dove’s efforts to put on a brave face, in spite of her overwhelming fear:

I’m so proud of Dove here. She’s trying to be so brave but I can see her shaking in fear. Can you see how much she’s trying? 🥺

Describing Dove’s demeanor when she was first taken in at the shelter facility:

Dove and her siblings Gumdrop and Lucy were huddled in the back of their kennel when I first met them a few weeks ago, and now they’ve gained some courage to be in front by their gate in an attempt to be noticed. It’s been really great progress to see so far. Gumdrop and Lucy have found their voice and are gleefully vocal. Dove on the other hand is very docile compared to her siblings, and you can just tell she has a heart of gold.

Providing insight into Dove and her sibling’s personalities:

She wants to be part of a great family too if only someone will give her that chance ❤️ She’s really starting to come out of her shell!
Dove and her siblings are around 4 years old, Black Mouth Cur – Terrier mixes, still a bit nervous but who wouldn’t be in this new scary environment? Intake date 12/6. They are ready for adoption and rescue! Give them some time and their true personalities will continue to break through and shine.

Please help network for these dogs – time IS of the essence.

  1. I hope someone local can help those abandoned chihuahuas. I would have taken them in a heartbeat and fostered them until they were old enough to be adopted…….. it’s an absolutely heartbreaking situation……..
