In Houston, Texas, a senior Labrador retriever mix was surrendered to a busy Texas animal control agency, and now he is scheduled to die. The 13-year-old dog, Big Boy, was surrendered to the BARC Shelter on August 24, and he is on “the list” of dogs to be put down tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 10.

Big Boy was surrendered by his family and will need a special adopter or rescuer to help with his medical care.

Big Boy ID# A1838398. He is heartworm negative and weighs 102 pounds.

Volunteers tell us he is friendly and loves treats. When the staff arrives at his kennel, he approaches and stands there with his tail wagging.

…He only takes some of the treats and then walks very slowly once he is lashed to the runs. I do have to lower my body to lure him to take more steps and follow me to a run. After cleaning his kennel, I went back for him and lured him in with some treats and pets on the head as well as babytalk.

He went right into the kennel after I stepped in…

Big Boy is an old guy who is overweight and possibly suffers from some arthritis.

… depressed, and reluctant to stand up. He accepts treats if thrown close by him and will half way sit up to reach for them. ACT attempted to lift Big Boy by the abdomen, but he lets out a pain yelp and gets mouthy. The dog is able to stand up but it takes him awhile and several tries. Possibly not eating due to the food bowl being to far from his reach. When walking out the kennel, dog walks really slow and abnormal walk coming from the hind legs. Dog also has 2 wounds on FR arm.
