In a heartbreaking photo that has brought tears to everyone’s eyes at the Senatobia-Tate County Animal Shelter in Mississippi on Monday, an outpouring of offers continue to pour in, and it is hoped the young man can soon be found and helped.

The homeless 17-year-old teenage boy who lives under a bridge in Tate County, walked his four-month-old dog all the way to the shelter and asked the staff if they would please take his dog because he could not afford to keep her. The devoted puppy kept herself pinned to the young man’s legs while he was at the shelter filling out the forms for her surrender.

My heart broke for him. He was clearly saddened by having to bring his dog up here. She was kind of clinging to him around his legs. Every time he would move, she would move. She has bonded with him. He has had her since she was little.

The four-month-old Rottweiler/ German shepherd mix, named Jada took the separation from her beloved human very hard, and when the young man left, Jada collapsed in the middle of the floor knowing she had lost her best friend. Her bag of food and blanket was all she had left of her past.

At this time Jada will not be put up for adoption and is in foster care. Authorities in the area have been looking for the teen, and offers from all over the country have taken a deep interest in the young man and his situation; ranging from offers to give him a home, a job and additional help to keep the two together.

The young man’s integrity has been admired as he was astute and compassionate enough to turn Jada in where he knew she would be getting the best of care.

The Senatobia-Tate County Animal Shelter is relatively small with a matching budget. Out of 40+ dogs housed there, only 12 of the dogs are lucky enough to have Kuranda beds which are raised beds giving the dogs a soft place to rest and sleep off of the concrete floors.

Today I went to pick up one of our girls from the vet who got spayed; she was moving pretty slow. I went to see if I could find a bed for her because she is one who does not have one in her kennel. When I went past her kennel, I saw that one of the employees had already found a bed for her, snagged one from another dog or found a leg to fix a broken one, and fixed up her place so that it would be comfy for her.”

A fundraiser to help buy Kuranda – 35×23″ beds at $88.00 each is expected soon, but if they can raise the money now, it sure would help these dogs be a bit more comfortable until their luck changes and they all find new homes.

If you’re able to donate or order a new bed, it would be a huge gift of love.
