A dog who has spent more than 200 days at an animal shelter in Kent, England, was supposed to meet his forever family at a Valentine’s Day adoption party…but nobody came to meet him. As reported by People, Luke is in the care of Battersea Dogs & Cats Home and the shelter had hoped that someone would fall in love with him at the special adoption event, but those dreams of happily-ever-after never came to fruition.

In a release, Michelle Bevan, the center manager at Battersea Brands Hatch, explained:

“Valentine’s Day is a time to show your appreciation for those you care about, so it’s heartbreaking knowing that Luke will be spending the day without anybody to love after nobody came to meet him for a date. Thankfully, Battersea staff were on hand to show Luke plenty of love and affection instead,”

Luke

According to Luke’s biography, he is five years of age and came to the shelter as a stray, so his history is unknown. He has made friends with shelter staff, but they acknowledge that he can be “sensitive” around new people. The animal welfare agency is hoping to find someone who can give Luke the guidance and love that he needs to thrive.
