An animal control facility in Michigan is pleading for help because their shelter is “beyond full” and the dogs in their care are becoming stressed. On Friday morning, the Genesee County Animal Control posted photos of dogs being held at the shelter facility, explaining the dire situation to Facebook followers:

Our shelter is full. Actually, it’s beyond full. Every kennel has a dividing wall that we can bring down for cleaning, or for getting into cages without disturbing the scared or confused pups. But for the past week or so we’ve had to bring down these dividers and put another dog on the other side. It cuts each dogs space in half. Now, there is extra barking, extra clanging metal walls, extra tension hanging in the air. The dogs that have been here for months are getting scared.

The crowded conditions are causing the dogs, and the staff, to be overwhelmed and stressed.

Even though the shelter is “no-kill,” the conditions are making the environment stressful. The agency explains:

We only have so many cages, even halved. We only have so many hours a day to walk them, play with them, love and comfort them. The more dogs there are, the less time each one gets outside of the kennel. It’s hard on the dogs and it’s hard on the volunteers who leave the shelter each day with the guilt, wishing they could have done more if there were only more time.

There are currently over 100 dogs being cared for at the shelter and they ALL need somewhere safe to go. The shelter said, “Tell us about your wants and needs and we’ll find the perfect pup for you. The only thing that each dog has in common is that they long for a home, and a family to call their own.”

The shelter ends, “Our space is limited. Our hours are limited. The stress our dogs can handle is limited. The volunteers’ resources are limited. But the love and joy a shelter dog can provide to your family is UNLIMITED. If you’ve been thinking about adopting, please, make an appointment to meet one of our dogs. Here are just a couple of our dogs.
It’s time.”
