A prolific cat killer, who was sentenced to more than five years in prison, has died. According to multiple sources, 54-year-old Steven Bouquet, aka the “Brighton Cat Killer,” died on January 6 – just a few months into his prison sentence. The serial cat killer had thyroid cancer which had spread to his organs.

Bouquet was found guilty of 16 offenses last year stemming from his feline killing spree; nine cats were fatally stabbed by the man, and an additional seven were seriously injured. At sentencing, Judge Jeremy Gold QC admonished Bouquet for targeting pets who are considered to be family members to their owners:

They are much loved by the adults and children who live with and care for them. ‘Cats and all domestic animals are a source of joy and support to their owners, especially during lockdown.’

Bouquet’s killing spree lasted from October 2018 to May 2019 – he was finally brought to justice after being captured on a CCTV camera which was set up by a pet owner whose cat had been killed, reports the Daily Mail.
