On Saturday evening, Serena Williams announced on social media that her beloved Maltese, Laurelei, had died at the age of 18.
Serena posted several heartwarming and adorable photos on Instagram stating:
Laurelei sadly took her last breath yesterday. I am sad but happy for all the time and all the extra I got to spend with her. She lived a long long life. The last year and a half was a bonus.
She got everything she ever wanted and she was biting toes till the end. Literally She LOVED chicken and acrobatics. She was the smallest yet toughest little pup and I will miss her …so much.

Laurelei was last posted on Serena’s Instagram with 15.2 million followers on Thursday where the pint sized cutie had been attending her mom’s practice session for the U.S. Open.
Laurelei was born May 2004 and passed away on August 27. She is survived by Serena’s other dogs Christopher Chip and a Jack Russell named Jackie.
Friends, fans and her family added their heartfelt condolences and sent healing words of love for the “special” dog.
Far and above, Serena Williams is one of the best tennis players of all times. Her ambition and her sheer willingness to fight the barriers to advance women in sports has been amazing. You’re the best Serena, and we at Pet Rescue Report are saddened by Laurelei’s passing, but we are assured she is now chomping on chicken and doing her dainty acrobatics at the Rainbow Bridge.
Rest in peace Laurelei.
