There is much to be said about our dogs and their loyalty, and Spuds, a nine-year-old rescued pit bull, deserves all the accolades any hero could get. After all, Spuds, who lives with his family in Altoona, Pennsylvania, helped to rescue his family a month ago when an intruder broke into their home.

According to Abc15News, Leroy Rucker had been watching television on March 24 with Spuds snoozing at his side when uninvited Robert Burke Jr., 53, entered the home through the front door. As Rucker rose to order Burke to leave immediately, Spuds joined in the efforts as soon as he spotted his owner fighting with the intruder.

Spuds helped to restrain Burke for nearly 20 minutes until police arrived. Neighbors describe the dog as being extremely loyal and has earned the community’s respect as a hero. No one is prouder of Spuds or loves him more than his owner and with good reason.

Burke has been charged with burglary, criminal trespass, simple assault and harassment. He has since posted a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on May 13.

If only Spuds could speak?
