Rambo had a very bad day at the dog park recently. Although the friendly and active two-year-old pup had been used to playing in the park with other dogs present, something happened that day, and Rambo bit another dog. The dog’s parents were then threatened by the landlord, as well as neighbors, to remove Rambo from the building. His owners tried to find a rescue organization to take Rambo and even offered to drive him anywhere, but not one rescue stepped forward to help.
Sadly, Rambo was surrendered to the New York City Animal Care Center in Manhattan, and an euthanasia order has been ordered for this dog.
Rambo is crate trained and stays comfortably in a crate overnight. He is extremely cuddly and loves to go for walks and playtime. He needs training for his apparent lack of manners, as he was barely socialized with other dogs and strangers. He is smart however, and loves learning.

How is this dog around strangers? Rambo is initially fearful of strangers and will bark and lunge at them when they try to touch him. He tends to be very food motivated and warms up with lots of treats.
How is this dog around children?: Rambo has no experience around children.
How is this dog around other dogs?: Rambo reacts to other dogs and tries lunge to get to them. He will also whine and bark if a dog walks near him and he cannot access them.
How is this dog around cats?: Rambo has no experience with cats.
Resource guarding: Rambo barks when his bowl, food, bones, treats, or rawhides are taken away. His is friendly and believes it is a game when you try to take his toys away from him. He isn’t bothered by getting a bath, being brushed, getting his nails trimmed, or if disturbed while he is resting. He will bark to let you know strangers are approaching your yard or home.
Housetrained:: Yes
Sadly, Rambo is having a hard time adjusting to shelter life and is a New Hope Rescue only.
Summary… 6/26/22: Rambo is at the front of the kennel with a neutral body and wagging tail. He is taken outside to an empty yard due to his reactivity. He stays by handlers and has a soft body. After some time passes, he begins to whine and yawn. He is brought back inside without issue.

Owner Surrender Reason: owner is being threatened by his landlord as well as neighbors to remove Rambo from the building. Rambo is on the emergency placement list due to behavioral reasons. Rambo has has a bite history to another dog and lunges at strangers. Medically, Rambo is apparently healthy.

I really hope Rambo can be rehomed instead of euthanized……. It’s absolutely heartbreaking that such a young, intelligent dog has been failed by his family and all the neighbors and the landlord…….he deserves to have a second chance: a muzzle and proper training would help him BIG TIME!!!
I am very familiar with this shelter and they have euthanized some amazing and highly adoptable dogs…… it’s absolutely disgusting and heartbreaking……… it doesn’t help that they have very strict rules on where the animals can go for fostering and adoption: only “Eastern Seaboard”state residents are eligible. I understand it but there are dogs that I would have happily fostered but they were euthanized because I and others who offered to help were “GUD”: (geographically undesirable)……..
SUPER URGENT! PLEASE PLEASE, ANGELS AND HEROES! DON’T LET THEM KILL THIS POOR SWEETHEART! HE DOESN’T DESERVE TO DIE!
