In Tampa, Florida, a sweet pup had been surrendered to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay because he was deaf, and his former family were not able to care for him properly.

Sometimes fate just steps in at the perfect time, and the 14-month-old Labahoula named Champ met his new dad. Davelis D.C. Goutoufas had decided to visit the shelter just to see what dogs were there and instantly felt “puppy love” when he approached Champ’s shelter cage and noted how friendly the adorable pooch seemed to be.

Champ seemed bound and determined to garner the attention of this special person and kept moving forward and softly barking until the two met and a special bond immediately formed. Goutoufas has had Labrador retrievers in the past, and when an employee told him that Champ was deaf, there was no question as to the dog’s new home; Goutoufas also suffers from hearing loss.

Officially adopted and receiving lots of love, Goutoufas did rename his dog to Apollo who has learned plenty of commands in sign language. Both Apollo and Goutoufas are living their best lives together!
