Puppy grew up as children threw rocks at him and then he was hit by a car

In Cleveland, Texas, the cruelty to dogs remains unexplainable, except to say so many people just don’t care. Every day dogs are injured, abused and killed, and it has been reported their owners have no shame, and for that reason ThisIsHouston refuse to give up and bravely continues their fight to help those who cannot speak.

Meet Spike – when he was eight-weeks-old he went to his new home. He was a happy puppy, but as he watched the small children walk by after school, he couldn’t understand why they threw rocks at him, nearly blinding him in his left eye. Spike never did anything wrong – perhaps he barked, but the porch had been his home, and he stayed loyal.

Now let’s fast forward to Spike being six-months-old. His family moved him into a fenced area with chickens and a dog house. Spike didn’t know much better, and it was his home. Of course, it wasn’t inside the house with the children and the comfortable rugs, but Spike stayed loyal.

Again, we move forward to last week. Now Spike is ten-and-a-half-months-old, and one of the small children let him out of the backyard to play.

You’re so happy, having fun and making memories with your human when a truck speeds up to purposely hit you – in front of the child. The truck literally crushes your pelvis. Your entire life changes in seconds.

The rescue organization had watched Spike grow up since July 2021, across the street where they would set up an outreach program offering free vetting to owned dogs. Spike had been brought to them for basic veterinarian care. It had been a neighbor who saw Spike hit on Saturday and had been assured by the owners that they would take Spike to the veterinarian for treatment. Sadly, they did not because they didn’t have the money, but they didn’t seem to be bothered their dog had to have been in severe pain.

On Sunday, ThisIsHouston had a clinic event, and the owners surrendered Spike. The puppy’s estimate for surgery to repair his pelvis is $8,000-13,000. He will get surgery on his hip this week, and he still needs to see an ophthalmologist for his eye.

  1. This is beyond tragic. If I knew the POS who deliberately ran over my dog in front of my child, well, I would be in jail…….

That disgusting POS has earned himself a reserved space in the hottest part of Hell to burn forever for his cruelty!!!

I hope this precious little treasure recovers ASAP and is rehomed into a loving furever family who will treat him as a beloved family member for his entire life.
