An adorable but “very mischievous” pup named after Sean Connery is still looking for his forever home after spending nearly 450 days at the shelter in Clinton County, Indiana. The gray pit bull, Connery, was named after James Bond star Sean Connery who passed away last year.

It would seem that Connery has had a run of bad luck and a short list of impatient would-be adopters. He has been on four trial adoptions and returned. Here are his disappointing experiences:

•The first time he was given 8 days to adjust and then returned due to being too hyper.

•The second time he was given 6 days to adjust and was returned due to being too rough with the small children – which we understand – so we changed his requirements to a home with no children under 12 years of age.

•The third time he was returned after 13 days due to being too needy and they didn’t have the time for him.

•The fourth time he was returned after 14 days due to the other dog being too rough with him and the family feeling as if he needed more training and work than they could give him. They really wanted to add a new dog to their home, but realized they may have not been completely ready yet.

Connery, however maintains his excellent disposition although the rescue organization does qualify this delightful ball of energy as “very mischievous who will need someone who is attentive to him.” And for the last year and a half, the affable pooch seems to maintain “a smile on his face most of the time and begs people to take him out of his cage.”

According to his adoption listing, Connery would do best in a home without cats or young children, although he is open to the idea of other dogs in his home. It’s just that he’s a big boy and may not always be aware of his strength.

Please understand how BIG of a commitment it is to adopt a shelter pet. They are already broken when you leave the society with them. Just do not give up on them. Being returned so many times really messes with their emotional and mental state, and that is something employees and volunteers have to see and deal with when they come back. The shelter is then left to pick up the pieces. It is heartbreaking and devastating.

Yikes! No detective work needed to figure out who made this mess.
