What a shame that the life threatening health problems affecting Mandy the bulldog were completely avoidable had they been responsible pet parents. On Sunday, the morbidly obese pup arrived at Southern California Bulldog Rescue in serious condition after having been rescued from the Victorville, California area animal shelter.

Mandy was rushed to East Chapman Veterinary Center where she began treatment for pyometra, a bacterial infection within the uterus as well as her extreme overweight condition. Blood tests were performed, and if Mandy is strong enough, she will undergo surgery for the pyometra. Pyometra can be easily avoided when a female dog is spayed.

There is ‘no reason’ a Bulldog should be allowed to get this fat, the damage to her joints and heart will last her a lifetime now.

We will be checking back on Mandy. Meanwhile, please wish her the best; we do know her new life will be so much better and can’t wait to see her progress as her diet, exercise and health habits improve.
