Home video footage shows a quick thinking mom saving her toddler who ran excitedly out of the house towards a black bear for a hug she saw in the yard. Surveillance video of Samantha Martin in her home near Seattle shows her spotting her daughter, Juniper shout out as she sees a black bear cub playing along the concrete walkway in the backyard.

Samantha can be heard yelling to her daughter to come back inside.

That’s a bear!

The moment the baby takes off to dash outside, Samantha scooped her up into her arms, only thinking about saving her child and knowing that the mother bear couldn’t have been far away.

According to Fox News, two-year-old Juniper had been watching a video when she spotted the baby bear outside and unlocked the door leading to the patio. Bears are the toddler’s favorite animals after learning about them in picture books. Since then Samantha has taught her daughter how dangerous bears can be even though they look so adorable.

Perhaps a warning to everyone about bears? It would seem that the mom and baby had been attracted to the bird feeder which has since been removed. The family lives near a golf course with lots of open space well known for lots of wildlife.

  1. I live near where this happened.

Mom was right to do what she did and I am very happy no one was hurt (or worse)!!!

We live next to a state park and we have lots of different wildlife in our yard.

Great to see so many different animals on a daily basis, BUT we must always remember that this area is their territory too and give them the space and respect they deserve.
