A Miami-Dade police officer is under investigation after a home surveillance camera video showed him shooting and killing an eight-month-old puppy outside of a home near Miami Gardens.

According to the Insider, the tragic incident occurred on Wednesday evening as the police officer arrived in response to a complaint of dogs barking.

The video showed a resident having a conversation with an officer, and when the resident went back inside the home, two dogs came running out. The American bully pup ran up to the officer barking, and within seconds the officer opens fire on the dog shooting him seven times.

The owners can be seen running out of their home, and a woman can be seen and heard screaming when she sees her dog.

The Miami Coalition Against Breed Specific Legislation has called for an investigation.

This 8-month-old puppy, Alpha, displayed no aggression and did not deserve to die like this. Seven times? A bit of excessive force, I think. The dog was not an elephant for God’s sake.

The owners of the puppy have retained an attorney. The Miami-Dade Police Department stated an internal investigation is ongoing, but have not released any information.

Rest in peace little guy.
