An Arizona woman is mourning the unexpected and horrific loss of her young dog, Ollie, who was shot and killed while they were enjoying a walk together on Monday, December 27. As reported by ABC 15 News, Cecelia Moreno was taking her young golden retriever for a late-night walk on a trail near 79th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road, in Phoenix, when a man approached.

Her dog, who was leashed, gave a warning growl and the man responded by pulling out a gun and shooting Ollie. Morena tells the news agency:

The gunshot was loud, I screamed until the police got there,” she said. “I like immediately fell on the floor with him and there was just blood, and that’s when I knew.“

According to Moreno, Ollie nudged her as he was dying…trying to comfort her even as his life slipped away. The man who shot Ollie said “sorry” and walked away. Now the search is on for the man responsible for the fatal shooting. Sgt. Steve Reaume with Silent Witness, describes the shooter as a black male, in his 20s, who is approximately 5’5″ tall and around 140 pounds.

A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the shooter’s arrest.
