Loyal dog stayed by her companion after hit by car and no one stopped to help

In the outskirts of Houston, a loyal dog bravely stayed with her companion on the side of a busy road after the one dog had been struck by a car. For what seemed like hours and hours, the dog suffered from her severe injuries; no one did anything to help. Everyone just drove by.

A social media plea begging for help, accompanied by the heartbreaking photo of the two dogs together posted on Facebook by animal rescuer Leslie Hennings, quickly went viral.

We were completely heartbroken at the sight of this photo … the life of strays. They truly rely on each other and love each other. We had to help. We are shocked (but grateful) she didn’t get hit again.

S.N.A.R.R Animal Rescue Northeast saw the plea and immediately stepped forward. The injured dog has been named Fergie and she is now in ICU care at a specialty hospital where she has been diagnosed with major head trauma. She is bleeding from her nose and ear and her eye is damaged and nerves severed.

At this time, Fergie is not able to walk and also suffers from contusions in her lungs and a broken jaw.

The hopeful news is, that Fergie’s breathing has now stabilized and she’s out of shock. She is very mentally dull but she does have feeling and proper reflexes in her face and eyes.

Now it is a waiting period to see how Fergie’s condition hopefully improves. Meanwhile her companion has also been rescued, and he is not injured. He is safe in a foster home and also awaits notice on his companion.

Reports indicate there was also a third dog with these two, and he will need to be humanely trapped.
