At the Monmouth County SPCA in New Jersey or any of the thousands upon thousands of rescues throughout the United States, being a shelter dog, even though their physical needs are provided, their emotional needs often leave them lonely, confused and scared. Everyday they watch strangers walk by them. And everyday, they see and hear other dogs, but are rarely left to interact with them because of space, time and the lack of staff.

Polar Bear is one of those dogs. He’s friendly with both people and dogs, and he has no idea whether it has been weeks or months since he’s been waiting for a home of his own.

As of today, our shelter has “1” open run for large breed dogs. Almost ALL of the dogs in our shelter right now have been local strays or surrenders over the past month; when one gets adopted, three more come in.

Every weekend this summer, all adult pitties/mixes will have a reduced adoption fee. Adoption counselors are available to discuss all of the amazing dogs at the shelter; if you have been considering adopting now is the time.

More about Polar Bear:

Since May 9, no one seems to have taken any interest in this sweet pup. Now he wonders when his day will come. He is a two-year-old pittie mix found as a stray in Neptune. His family never came to claim him. He is a happy and curious boy who loves exploring on long walks and then relaxing; he has the cutest sleep positions.

Polar Bear is dog-friendly, enjoys his playgroups at the shelter and would do well with bigger, dog-savvy kids.
