A dog trapped in a canal in Marathon, Florida, was rescued by law enforcement personnel on Saturday. On Monday, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office posted a photo of the tired pooch, recounting what transpired:

This very tired, but happy pooch was pulled from a canal in Marathon Saturday after it was unable to get out of the water.

The reporting person said he saw an exhausted dog swimming in the canal searching for a way to exit the water.

According to the news release, Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Joel Slough, Deputy Zach Gilroy, and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Lt. Dodd Bulger “sprang into action” to save the struggling Labrador retriever. The trio successfully lassoed the tired pup and guided him/her to a homemade floating dock. As soon as the dog was out of the water, it collapsed from exhaustion.

Fortunately, all’s well that ends well. The dog was not harmed and residents in the area were able to identify who he/she belonged to, and officers returned the dog to its home.
