A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered by PETA after a Kentucky family’s pet cat was found killed with a hunting dart earlier this month. As reported by Lex 18 News, Melissa Lapish’s cat George did not come home on March 17 – her daughter found him dead beside their Nicholasville home four days later.
Someone shot George through the neck with a hunting dart, and according to Jessamine County animal control officials, George isn’t the first cat to be targeted in a similar fashion in the area. Jessamine County Animal Care and Control director Timothy Brown. “We’ve been doing a couple of investigations where that was actually found in another feline in Jessamine County. We had got to a dead-end road with that investigation, but now that this has happened again, we are definitely looking at all avenues to try to get the person into custody.”
PETA is hopeful that the reward will lead to a case-breaking tip, and that someone will be arrested, charged, and convicted.
Courtney Penley, with PETA, said:
“This person is a huge threat to the community, and it is urgent that anyone that has any information about his death contact the authorities immediately. The best thing that we can do is have people keep their cats and dogs indoors and report any neglect, abuse, or animals being used for criminal activity so that we can stop those animals from being hurt before it’s too late,”
