In Queensland, Australia, two Staffordshire bull terriers, Peggy and Ruby, had been on a walk in the park with their human mom and her partner, when they found a baby bird who had seemingly been abandoned.

According to People, it had been magpie breeding season, and at times magpie parents force some of their baby birds out of the nest – either because of insufficient food or there are just too many. So, on this day almost two years ago, Juliette Wells and Reece spotted the tiny orphaned bird along with pooch Peggy. Not wanting to do anything with the baby bird because they hoped the mom would come back for it, Juliette waited for hours- Peggy never losing sight of the tiny creature walking around by itself obviously looking for its mother.

Sadly, the mom didn’t show any interest in her baby, and Juliette and Reece took the baby bird home and contacted wild life rescues to help. None of the rescues had any room for the baby magpie, so the couple decided to raise the little one on their own using the advice of wildlife rescuers.

Peggy was confused and didn’t understand the new family addition the couple named Molly, but within a few days the baby bird and Peggy formed an unusual bond – to say the least, and started to interact and play. Molly would ride on Peggy’s back, and the two would nap together. The rest is history.

When Juliette started posting photos of the two on social media, their popularity increased exponentially. The Instagram account has more than 195,000 followers:

Peggy’s puppy Ruby soon became best friends with Molly, and even though the mother dog is protective of her puppy when it becomes mating season for magpies, they give each other space.

Juliette and Reece have not spent a day away from home for two years since Molly arrived because the care is so individualized. Meanwhile it’s a great lesson for all of us – getting along together no matter who or what you are. Can’t we all be nice to each other?
