A small dog is safe thanks to a good Samaritan who saved her from an unthinkable fate. According to the Broome County Humane Society, someone saw the dog abandoned on a highway…hours before a winter storm was expected to hit the area.

In a Facebook post, the animal welfare agency explained:

Just imagine being shut in a box and abandoned on the highway hours before a winter storm. 📦 😭🥶 This little nugget was found by a Good Samaritan and brought to us yesterday. Upon arrival, her paw was wrapped around a fabric collar digging into her leg. 😣 Although scared, the staff was able to remove the fabric and begin to get her settled. 🥰

The dog was scanned for a microchip, but nothing was found and her history remains unknown. She is, however, safe and warm. The shelter writes:

She is currently decompressing from her tragic experience in a quiet area and has been spoiled with a large bed, blankets, and warm food. 🥰 We named her Margret, and she is estimated to be around seven years old. She is quite a talker and woofed down her food. 😆😋

Margret is not currently available for adoption. You can follow her progress at this link to the shelter’s Facebook page.
