A malnourished mother dog, and her puppies, are safe thanks to a good Samaritan who noticed that something was amiss, and officers who sprang into action to help. According to Florida’s Orange County Animal Services agency, someone notified them that there was an underweight dog inside of a fenced yard. The agency said:
Our officers responded, along with the Orlando Police Department. They made contact with a resident, who denied ownership of the dog. Our officers were surprised to find a very sweet mama dog, extremely emaciated, and seven of her very young puppies, all in good shape.
Adding:
Our team leapt into action, and assisted by Police Officer Amy, they were able to capture the frightened mom and pick up all her pups. Once under our care, the mother became extremely friendly, if a bit timid, and we have been able to successfully provide care for her and her pups.
Because the puppies are so young, animal services knew that they needed to be in the care of a rescue group who could take them in, with their mom. Ziggy’s Legacy Rescue answered the call for help and took the family in. On Sunday, the agency updated Facebook followers about their new arrivals, writing:
Mom is really thin. All are pretty anemic from fleas. On iron supplements. Doc will see them all tomorrow and assess again. They are here and safe. Details later moms timid but sweet. Love is the answer.

This family is safe now thanks to someone who spoke up. Orange County Animal Services reminds everyone to do their part:
We always ask our community, if you see an animal injured or in need; a nursing mom, a starving pup, please reach out to us. We have officers working 24 hours a day, responding to all sorts of emergencies. We have incredible rescue partners who time and time again have saved lives, and saved the day. The mission will always be these animals.
