In the huge Scotland county of Perthshire, a family’s beloved dog gave his owners quite a fright when he disappeared at their vacation spot in the long narrow Loch Tummel two days after Christmas.

According to the Daily Record, Kirk and Pauline McIntosh had been on a relaxing hike on Monday with their daughter and son, when their dog disappeared from their sight. Their nine-year-old rescue spaniel named Mix was just nowhere to be found.

And so the family reached out for help, and the online animal group Missing Pets Perth and Kindross gave the family advice and a night scope and alerted the group of volunteers about Mix’s disappearance. After approximately 30 hours, the dog was spotted about a half mile from home by a jogger. Fortunately, Mix was not unharmed, although he was exhausted.

I was lucky enough to meet handsome Mix today the doggy that went missing for over 24 hours in the Loch Tummel area earlier this week. He was a little bit shy then happily took some sausage treats! His family are extremely grateful for all the help and support you have them in Mix’s search…I’m absolutely over the moon to confirm that Mix has been found safe (if a little bit scared!) and is now on his way home ❤️ a huge huge thank you absolutely everyone who went out to search, called in sightings and offered words of support. You are all amazing as always. Welcome home Mix!

The family, using their mobile app, recorded more than 55,000 steps trying to locate Mix, but the dedication of animal lovers and just kind people made it possible for Mix to be reunited with his family.

Thirty hours. Zero degrees. 55,000 steps. Four hours sleep and many tears later, we have our boy back.

Welcome home Mix. Stay safe boy!
