Days ago, an emaciated and severely dehydrated dog was found at a construction site in Troy, Alabama. The dog, dubbed Ivy, was so dehydrated that her kidneys were failing. On April 4, the Troy Animal Rescue Project shared information about the neglected dog, writing:
Ivy was at least once someone’s pet. She has on a fairly new collar. She also has scars from where she has had previous collars embedded….Her life probably hasn’t been lived as a spoiled pet.
Ivy was placed in the care of the Troy Animal Clinic where she held steady for a short time. But the damage of her neglect had taken a toll that her body simply could not overcome. On Wednesday morning, the animal welfare agency made a heartbreaking announcement to Facebook followers, writing:
Heartbreaking Ivy Update…This morning, Ivy took a turn for the worst. Even with the amazing care from Dr. Hawkins and the staff at Troy Animal Clinic, Ivy’s body had just endured too much to overcome. We decided to peacefully help her over rainbow bridge.
Ivy was cremated and the rescue group has promised to find her a beautiful resting place.
The organization expressed sorrow that help did not come in time:
We are so sorry that we were to late sweet girl. Rest In Peace…
