In Worcestershire, United Kingdom, a viral video shows two men steal a woman’s French bulldog in the middle of the day. The dognappers approached the leashed one-year-old dog as her owner, Caroline Busby had been on their walk. The two men then engaged her in conversation, and as they knelt down to pet Luna, unleashed her at the collar, picked her up and ran off with her.

According to the Daily Mail, Caroline frantically went after the culprits and searched for her beloved pooch following last week’s abduction and posted the CCTV video of the thieves on Facebook. The video quickly went viral, and with the help of the police, Luna was found wandering alone eight miles away.

The video surveillance showed the two men crouched down and hiding behind a fence while they waited for Caroline and Luna to walk by. That’s when they appeared and stole the dog. Fortunately Luna was not harmed.

Caroline is now afraid to even walk her dog and won’t go out on her own anymore.

As to how to prevent dognapping, these are some helpful hints all of us should consider:

1.Make sure your dog is microchipped and that you keep contact details updated especially if you move or change your phone number.

2. Always keep a collar on your dog with an identification tag which includes your address and phone number.

3.It is not recommended that you put your dog’s name on his identification tag because it just makes it easier for dognappers to lure them away from their homes using their names.

4. Have photographs of your dog from various angles and keep the photos updated.

5. Make sure to have photos of you and your dog so as to help identify the dog as yours.

6. Be wary of strangers approaching you and asking you if they can pet your dog. Be wary of cars slowing down around you.

7. Consider walking with someone else and keep your eyes on your dog at all times.

8. Never leave your dog tied up outside a shop no matter how quickly you plan to return.

9. Don’t leave your dog alone in a car.

10. Never let your dog off his leash if you’re not sure he will stay or come right back to you.

11. Consider purchasing a GPS pet tracker.
